One of my favorite things from Star Trek is the idea of a utopia future where no one is paid anything and we’re all basically given unlimited access to whatever we want. And people actually work because they enjoy their work and want to better mankind, etc…
I think it’s that kind of positive vision that most people share about the world, and it’s one of the reasons that Sci-Fi is so interesting, because most (all?) of us will never see that future except in the movies or in books. Unless, of course, you believe in the Singularity event that will allow us to all live forever, etc… once computers are smarter than humans and start to evolve at an exponential rate to solve all of our problems.
